Since I am spending a lot of time on it, I thought it was the perfect time to tell you all about what we think about our sofa purchase we made in September last year. Just a quick love note to our old sofa, I do miss you! I am talking about the floral set we bought from the British Heart Foundation 3 or so years ago, it was a total bargain of £140 for the 3 seater sofa, two floral chairs and a poufee. I still wonder how it had barely been used since it’s production date of 1991, but as wonderful as it looked, it was giving us a few back problems. Well to be fair we couldn’t decide if it was our mattress or our sofa, but we decided to tackle the sofa 1st and see what happened.

Once we’d decided we would like a corner sofa, I spent months researching them. Turns our corner sofas are not cheap…how typically predictable of me. We looked at the Loaf ones, a Made one and dreamt of a Sofa Workshop V&A one, but all were out of our budget. One day I stumbled across the then new Joules collection from DFS, the Patterdale corner sofa was £1399 (it’s currently £1199) which was much cheaper than the others we had seen AND we could go into store and visit it.

One question I have had the most about our sofa from people, is does it keep it shape / do you have to keep fluffing it up all the time? We don’t do much too it at all, however for it to keep it’s plump shape, you need to opt for the ‘fibre encore seat filling’, which DFS describe as: a foam core in a soft continental quilt wrap that will keep its shape beautifully through the years. It does cost extra, but it was about £90 which I think is well worth it. When you can go back into store again, the standard one in the showroom doesn’t have this filling, so seems squishy, but they have a fibre encore cushion for you to try, make sure you ask someone to get it for you to the sample cushion to sit on.

We also went with the added fabric protection, which means they spray it in the factory with a protective scotch guard type product. In terms of stains, we haven’t had any problems yet, most things just scratch off, and even when Jack/June* decided to cover the whole thing in Cornflour it hoovered straight off. We took out the five year fabric cover too, which was a bit punchy at £149, but if a really bad stain occurs they will come out and replace the panel affected with an entirely new one.

From ordering it took around 8 weeks to be delivered, which cost £69, and it arrived just as we got back from our honeymoon, what a treat! I absolutely love it, it’s so comfy and the corner element is my favourite! There is a part of me that wishes we had the pink one, however as a compromise we opted for the green, and I think with a toddler in the house was the sensible decision. At some point, I will switch up the curtains we have, as it’s made that corner very green indeed!

We didn’t choose any of the Joules cushions, as I knew we had more than enough at home. There’s a mix of House of Hackney sample sale cushions, a couple from Homesense and some peach Kip & Co ones.

Lastly, we are taking advantage of the 0% APR DFS offers, you can pay over as many months as you would like, up to 4 years. Our sofa is split up into 12 month payments of £149, which started from delivery, but of course I would leave this up to you to decide if this is a responsible option for you or not.

All in all, we are really pleased with it, I’d say every other day we comment on how comfy it is and how happy we are we got it, especially right now. If you have any more questions about the most adult purchase we’ve ever made, please let me know in the comments below!

*I am unsure exactly who is responsible to this day
